burn

Opening Prayer: Lord, awaken me, you whose love burns beyond the stars; light the flame of my lantern that I may always burn with love. —A Traveler Toward the Dawn by John Eagan

Scripture: Luke 12:49-50

Journal: What fire is burning within you these days?  How does God want to set you ablaze?

Reflection: Philosopher William James said: "In some people religion exists as a dull habit, in others as an acute fever."  Jesus did not endure the shame of the cross to hand on a dull habit.  (If you don't have the fever, dear reader, a passion for God and His Christ, drop this book, fall on your knees, and beg for it; turn to the God you half-believe in and cry out for His baptism of fire.) ~The Signature of Jesus by Brennan Manning

Cast aside everything that might extinguish this small flame which is beginning to burn within you, and surround yourself with everything which can feed and fan it into a strong flame. —The Art of Prayer

Prayer

Closing Prayer: Let your fire burn within me, O Jesus, that I would be totally consumed by your furious love.  Kindle the fires of your affection deep in my soul, that I may always burn with love for you.  Amen.
