Scripture: Luke 9:28-36
Journal: How have you been at listening to God lately? What has he been saying to you?
Reflection:
We tend to make things far too complicated,
especially when, at their core, things are really quite simple. God shows us that right here. While our tendency, like Simon Peter, is to
run off and start building an million-and-one different things in the
name of worship and ministry, God reminds us that it all comes down to one
thing. “This is my Son, whom I have
chosen; listen to him.” Everything
starts right there. We start by
listening, and everything else is meant to flow out of that. Unfortunately, we get it backwards a lot. This is “the simplicity on the other side of
complexity” as Oliver Wendell Holmes once called it. God simply wants us to listen to Jesus;
everything else will take care of its self.
Prayer
Closing
Prayer: Forgive us, Lord Jesus, when we make things
too complicated. Help us to hear the
brilliant simplicity in these words of Scripture. Help us, this day, to listen to you. Amen.
