Opening Prayer: In your unbounded love you have shown us your
face and made your way known among all nations.
May we recognize in your decision to become one flesh with us and
invitation to live gratefully with others as one family, gathered and held
together in your holy name. Amen. (A
Guide to Prayer for All Who Walk with God by Rueben P. Job, Norman
Shawchuck, and John S. Mogabgab)
Scripture: Colossians 2:9-10
Journal: What words in this passage make something come
alive within you? Why? How do they expand your picture of
Jesus? How do they make you love him
more?
Reflection:
Books of theology tend to define God by what He is
not: immortal, invisible, infinite. But what is God like, positively? For the Christian, Jesus answers such
all-important questions. The apostle
Paul boldly called Jesus "the image of the invisible God." Jesus was God's exact replica: "For God
was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him."
God is, in a word, Christlike. Jesus presents a God with skin on whom we can
take or leave, love or ignore. In this
visible, scaled-down model we can discern God's features more clearly. (The Jesus I Never Knew by
Philip Yancey)
Prayer
Closing Prayer: Lord Jesus, thanks that in you the whole
fullness of deity dwells in bodily form.
Not just in part, not just a piece, but in full. You are fully God and yet fully man. O the mystery! The invisible, intangible God has made
himself visible and tangible in you.
Thank you for being willing to do that.
Amen. (Watch and Wait by Jim Branch)
