Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that what you offer us is
far more than a distant, formal acquaintance.
You desire so much more for us and from us. You desire an intimate, passionate connection—a
deep knowing. Thank you that what you
really want is for us to abide in you, that what you really desire is intimate
union. And thank you that you will
settle for nothing less, help that to be true of us as well. Amen.
Scripture: John 15:5-11
Journal: How would you describe you current relationship
with Jesus? What do you think he wants
for you? What would it look like to
abide in him? How will you take him up
on that invitation today?
Reflection:
When we truly abide in Christ, when our union with
Him is complete, then His desires and ours are one. (An Autobiography of
Prayer by Albert E. Day)
Some people live for God, some people live
with God, some people live in God.
Those who live for God, live with other
people and live in the activities of their community. Their life is what they do.
Those who live with God also live for Him,
but they do not live in what they do for him, they live in what they are before
him. Their life is to reflect Him by
their own simplicity and by the perfection of His being reflected in their
poverty.
Those who live in God do not live with
other men or in themselves still less in what they do, for He does all things
in them. (Thoughts in Solitude by Thomas Merton)
Prayer
Closing Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to learn how to truly
abide in you, that we might know that deep union with you for which we
were made. Amen.
