seeing, friday

Friday, May 2

Come to Stillness: Take a few minutes to allow your mind and heart to be still before God.

Opening Prayer: Then run, faithful souls, happy and tireless, keep up with your Beloved who marches with giant strides from one end of heaven to the other.  Nothing is hidden from His eyes.  He walks alike over the smallest blade of grass, the tallest cedars, grains of sand or rocky mountains.  Wherever you go He has gone before.  Only follow Him and you will find Him everywhere. (The Sacrament of the Present Moment by Jean-Pierre De Caussade)

Scripture Reading for the Day: Hebrews 12:1-3

Reading for Reflection:

Unfortunately, in seeing ourselves as we truly are, not all that we see is beautiful and attractive.  This is undoubtedly part of the reason we flee silence.  We do not want to be confronted with our hypocrisy, our phoniness.  We see how false and fragile is the false self we project.  We have to go through this painful experience to come to our true self.  It is a harrowing journey, a death to self—the false self—and no one wants to die.  But it is the only path to life, to freedom, to peace, to true love.  And it begins with silence.  (A Place Apart by M. Basil Pennington)

Reflection and Listening: silent and written

Prayer: for the church, for others, for myself

Closing Prayer: You awake us to delight in your praise, for you made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.

                                                                                                ~St. Augustine
